Dragon & Phoenix Gold 200 Yuan Design Concept Pattern

An EXTREMELY RARE modern gold pattern containing 2 ounces of gold, which was struck prior to, and dated the year before the official start of the Dragon & Phoenix Series of commemorative coins which began in 1990. Meticulously produced, the design on this piece is virtually identical to the 1990 issue, with the only distinguishable difference being the date, which sits at the bottom the Great Wall motif on the reverse. While little is known about this issue's creation, we do know that very few examples exist, with four total certified, one or two of which may be duplication caused in an attempt of getting a PROOF-70 grade. Whatever the actual number, the importance of coin on the landscape of modern rarities cannot be disputed. For the modern specialist, an opportunity that truly may not be seen again for many years to come.
