Like the different tool watches which Rolex had manufactured over the years, the reference 1019 was introduced in 1956 to meet the demands of the scientific community, where watches remained accurate in environments of high magnetic fields. With the capability to withstand magnetic fields of up to 1,000 gauss, the model is also nicknamed the Mil-Gauss.
