A Colonial Marine Flamethrower from James Cameron's 1986 sci-fi movie Aliens.

Cast adrift for almost sixty years after the events of Alien, Ellen Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) reluctantly joins a platoon of hardened Colonial Marines in the hopes of saving the residents of a colony infested with grotesque humanoid aliens.

Frost (Ricco Ross), Apone (Al Matthews), Dietrich (Cynthia Dale Scott) and Drake (Mark Rolston) carried M240 Incinerator Units during the base and hive exploration scenes. Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) also used a Pulse Rifle/flamethrower combination she constructed aboard Dropship 2, after being rescued by Bishop (Lance Henriksen) en route to the hive when rescuing Newt (Carrie Henn). Interestingly, Ross stated his character was ironically named Frost by Cameron, given his accidental death by Dietrich’s flamethrower.

Made from fibreglass, this static ‘carry around’ flamethrower was used when live-fire models and hero flamethrowers weren’t needed for close-up shots. SFX supervisor John Richardson and conceptual designer Ron Cobb created several different versions of each weapon for production. This item is loosely based on existing military hardware, consisting of two M16 rifles spliced together, while the front section is based on an M203 grenade launcher with its handle and receiver sections evident at the centre. A Colt Patent Firearms logo is embossed near the butt end.

The flamethrower is painted green, with characteristic features including muzzle exhaust holes, safety switches and essential chassis details. It features marks, stains and chipped paintwork from production use, most notably around the fuel canister and protruding parts. Red sand can be seen in its crevices, indicating use outdoors. It remains in an overall excellent condition.
